Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Kirkwood

What is a Community Wildfire Protection Plan?

Alpine County and Kirkwood Firewise are in the process of creating a Kirkwood Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and is seeking public input.

The CWPP provides a roadmap for the community and aims to inspire actions that will help mitigate the potential for wildfire loss in the Kirkwood area. It outlines the risks and hazards and provides specific recommendations to address those risks.

Alpine County and Kirkwood Firewise would like to hear from anyone who lives, works, or has invested in the Kirkwood area to ensure the plan meets the community’s needs. Input provided will inform strategies for reducing wildfire risk in your community, fire safety programs and educational materials and fuel management priorities on public and private lands.

How to participate:

Alpine County will hold an in-person and virtual public meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 7 p.m.

The meeting will include an overview of the CWPP process and project timeline in addition to a review of preliminary wildfire hazards. Attendees will learn how the plan will be used to fund local fire safety projects and will have the opportunity to share wildfire concerns such as evacuation, emergency response, home hardening and defensible space.

How to attend:

Members of the public may attend the meeting at the Kirkwood Meadows Public Utility District’s Community Service Meeting Room at 33540 Loop Road in Kirkwood, California OR by visiting the Zoom link. To access it on the phone, call +16699006833. Meeting ID: 858 4697 4359, Passcode: 690223
